Sophomore Slump Part 2: Valentine’s Day
Every year when February rolls around, college campuses fall into a state of madness. First years begin planning elaborate “Galentine’s Day” events, setting up romantic Skype calls with their somehow-still-existent high school sweethearts, or maybe even embarking on weekend getaways with the significant others they managed to secure on the first day of orientation. Meanwhile, seniors begin to realize that yes, they’re actually seniors, and panic ensues as they awkwardly try to turn longstanding, extremely platonic friendships into something more. But, if you’re a sophomore like me, stuck somewhere between naiveté and adulthood, Valentine’s Day is just another reminder that although you might be unproductive and unsuccessful, you’re not going to do anything about it. So, for the lazy and the lonely, here are some ideas to keep yourself occupied this Valentine’s Day…
- Go to Whiskey’s – how could we possibly be so lucky as to have Valentine’s Day fall on a Wednesday this year?! Gather a few of your favorite sadboys, meander on down the hill aggressively early, and lose yourself in a haze of PC students and Mr. Brightside.
- 1 word: delivery. We live in a world of wild technology in which countless apps and sites exist for the sole purpose of bringing you food. If you leave your bed (for longer than the amount of time spent at Whiskey’s) this Valentine’s Day, just know that sophomores around the world will be judging you.
- Ratty challenge – if you’re not into ordering in but would still like to eat your feelings this Valentine’s Day, take the opportunity to cross one item off of your Brown bucket list. Binge on the heart shape cookies that will inevitably be served or just sit in a secluded booth scouting future Valentines. Whatever you’re into.
- Catch up on work - make yourself feel a little bit better about being alone on V-day by actually doing some of the work you've been neglecting (see previous post). Bonus points for spending the day in the stacks where no one can find you!
- There's always Datamatch—hopefully you were smart enough to sign up! If not, next year, let Blog find someone to take home to your mother on V Day—little to no effort required.
