Rhythm of Change Festival sees art as activism
The Rhythm of Change Festival, an annual festival of Mande Performance and Social Engagement, took place this weekend on Brown's campus. The Festival seeks to operate in the intersection of art and activism, bringing together educators, social entrepreneurs, artists and activists. The 2016 iteration of the festival partnered with FirstWorks, Rites and Reasons Theatre, Urban Bush Women, Troupe Yeredon and included artists from Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal and New York City, as well as Providence.The workshops and performances throughout the weekend focused on the artist's role in the Black Lives Matter movement and in fostering critical consciousness among college students of color.[flickr_set id="72157665168444381"]
