Guide to preregistration
We’ve just barely passed the halfway mark for this Spring semester, and now it’s time for pre-registration for the Summer term. Registration opens on Tuesday, March 16 at 12:00 PM EDT (yes, you read that right - we’re going back to Daylight Savings’ time yet again), so prepare your cart and ready that mouse if there’s a class you’re really gunning for, whether it’s a really small seminar or a lecture class with limited space. Here’s a guide to having the best pre-registration period you can control.
Organize your cart and get your ALT pin. Whatever courses you pre-register for aren’t going to necessarily be final, but be sure that the courses you want are in your cart. Talk to your advisor and/or Meik about your cart, and be sure to ask for your ALT pin if you need one to register. If you’re eyeing a course with multiple components, add all of the sections to your primary cart. Banner won’t let you register if it’s not in there.
Set the computer clock to include seconds. Registration opens on the second, at exactly 12:00:00 PM EDT. Make this temporary change so that you can move immediately.
Wake up on time. No, you don’t have to wake up like, an hour before. You just need to be conscious enough to log into C@B, to know where your buttons are, and to be able to copy-paste your ALT pin from whatever notes applications you’re using. I’d recommend being sane about 10-15 minutes before noon.
Click “Go To Registration” on C@B. Go to C@B, and double check your cart. Then click the Register button in your Primary cart, and follow those steps. Paste your ALT pin into the slot. Make sure to select all the components you need to register for.
Wait. Refresh. Repeat. In the upper left hand corner of the “Registration instructions” box, you should see the timestamp. This timestamp is the last time the website recognizes you were there - it doesn’t change unless you refresh the page. Now that you’ve done the prep work, you’ll just have to wait for a bit. Go microwave your lunch. Eat your yoghurt. Do whatever, really, you want to. Refresh one last time at 11:59:58, or 11:59:59 if your internet is not terrible.
Register. As soon as that timestamp hits 12:00:00 when you refresh, you are all set to hit register. The quicker you do it, the more likely it is that you’ll get into your classes.
