Is this Happiness or Failed Academia?: The Ramblings of a Girl Done with Finals
How am I done with finals today? Well, I'm glad you asked because I, personally, am still trying to figure that out. I think I get the gist of it though, so I'll try and explain it all as best as I can.
At the start of this semester, I decided it was an 'art' semester which, to me, meant 'prioritizing creativity' and 'learning new skills.' What did this translate to in practice? Three S/NC courses and also German, for a reason I make up anew every time someone asks me. Don't get me wrong, I have loved these courses and learned a great deal from them, but have I done a lot of work for them? Objectively, I would say yes. In relation to how much work other people here have to do for their classes? Yeah, maybe less.
This is all fine and good. That is, it is until the dreaded sensation of comparison sets in, you know? While everyone else is writing ~essays~ (which I have not done once this semester), I am debating what show to start on Netflix (if you have any recommendations, send them my way).
However, I am still trying my hardest to commit to this whole semester of creativity and self-discovery/trying my hardest to make my decisions feel valid! So, I've created a list of things I'm trying to do now that the great weight of academia is mildly off my back. If you're feeling ~crazy~ or ~Bored over winter break~, feel free to join me in my quest for well-roundedness!
- Learn how to music: Did I spontaneously buy a cheap guitar at the start of this semester? Oh, of course. Now that the semester is over, maybe it's time to actually learn to use it!
- Skateboard: Did I also spontaneously buy a skateboard at the start of this semester? Yeah, I also did do that. Time to get on top of this teenage dream before I'm twenty.
- Embroider things: Think about how much more quirky I could look if I just show my interests through illustrative sewing. This is a winterbreak must.
- ~Tailor things~: Now that we know how to sew lil pictures, it's time to learn how to sew things for practical purposes! I'm going to go to Savers, buy things that don't fit me, and pretend I have the skills to make it work.
- Read: I don't know who said this to me recently, but someone said that you create things as good as what you consume (which might be why this article is a mess.) So, in order to take advantage of that, I'm going to read more ~quality~ things in a selfish effort to write better quality things. Hopefully, next semester articles will be a lot stronger on my part. Only time will tell!
Now, this list absolutely isnt everything oyu could accomplish over break, but it is a start! It is also probably true that I'll personally only do half of it, so it goes. Anyways, as you all finish up finals, Blog wishes you luck with the general life aimlessness that comes after it! See you all in the Spring.
