Costumes that Will Haunt You this Halloween

The scary season is upon us and, with that, comes the opportunity to attempt to achieve the impossible: to wear a relevant, timely costume that somehow marks you as hot, cool, unique, and alluring. This challenge is one of the most difficult of our time. How can you simultaneously signal all of these virtues and still appear nonchalant, like you’re not even really trying? I’m pretty sure this is impossible to achieve.

In case you’re in need of some inspiration, here are a few costume ideas that I’m sure will be a hit this Halloween season and that can possibly aid you on the quest for coolness.

Maddy from Euphoria

Maddy is basically the human embodiment of a great Halloween costume: hot, cool, a little bit scary, with her own unique style. I am calling now that this costume will be particularly inescapable this Halloween. Who can blame you, though? I mean, her carnival outfit! It’s just unreal. I foresee that there will be more Euphoria characters marching chaotically around College Hill than there were at their actual carnival. The same goes for Rue, Jules, Fez, Kat, etc.

Anyone from Game of Thrones I’m sure Daeneyrs will be a big hit, though I feel like we should just collectively move on at this point.

Dani from Midsommar

Very 2016 Coachella flowery meets getting kidnapped into a Swedish cult, which (obviously) is a desirable aesthetic.

Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction

Every Halloween, Mia Wallace is a very popular costume within a particular niche crowd. I must admit I fell victim to this trope last Halloween. Mia is truly an old trusty standby, but definitely feels a bit pat myself on the back for knowing about Quentin Tarantino, in my opinion.

Cher from Clueless

I’m not sure how this costume has kicked it as long as it has, given that the movie came out over 20 years ago. You’ve gotta credit its longevity. I’m sure the yellow plaid suit will again be in abundance this Halloween.

The gang from Big Little Lies
Any chance to be somehow tangentially associated with Zoe Kravitz is worth taking.

Instagram influencers The obvious irony here is that influencers are manufactured personas, and so one could argue that they are regularly wearing costumes in their own life. Meta, right? Ugh, it’s hard being so deep.

Anyway, happy Halloween, everyone! Enjoy this singular opportunity to try to convince the people around you that you are smart, creative, funny, hot, cute, cool, interesting, cutting-edge, and (above all else) clearly soooo chill! All at once!
