Presenting: BCA's 2019 Spring Weekend Lineup

The moment we've all been waiting for has finally arrived: 2019's Spring Weekend lineup is here! We're excited (not only because of the awesome artists but also because this may be the first time in history that Blog's predictions have been even somewhat right*), and you should be, too! But just in case the announcement at the Met Lounge made you more confused than excited, we've put together a brief guide to all the artists who will be performing on the Main Green this April. Keep your eyes peeled for longer artist bios to come!  daniel caesarDaniel CaesarDaniel Caesar is a Canadian R&B soul/neo soul singer and songwriter known for his "timeless voice" and embrace of the "synergistic relationship between gospel and R&B." His debut album Freudian, which followed the release of two critically acclaimed EPs, came out in August 2017 and secured two Grammy nominations. Caesar lists Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Beyoncé, and Jim Morrison among his musical influences. mitskiMitskiMitski is a Japanese-American indie-rock singer and songwriter who has released five albums, several of which have been critically acclaimed. The New Yorker called her most recent album “Be the Cowboy” "one of the best albums of the year" in 2018 and Iggy Pop has described her as “maybe the most advanced American songwriter that I know." The Guardian noted that the songs on "Be the Cowboy" are "too weird and glitchy" to be straightforward pop, but they are "just close enough that it all starts to feel a little Uncanny Valley." amineAminéAnimé is an American rapper, singer and songwriter whose commercial debut single, "Caroline" (created while he was still a student at Portland State University), peaked at 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The New York Times described Animé's debut album, "Good for You," as "joyously off-kilter, taking in Southern rap, cheerful pop, indie rock and more." Aminé is also notable for his outspoken critiques of President Donald Trump. stefflon donStefflon DonStefflon Don is a British rapper and grime artist best known for her 2017 single "Hurtin' Me" featuring French Montana. According to The Guardian, which described her appeal as "global," she "raps over dancehall, Brazilian baile funk, Afrobeats and ravey house – a blend of syncopated African, Caribbean and Latin-American rhythms united by Technicolor bombast." Stefflon Don has also been labeled "the bougie star that British rap needs." kair fuaxKari FauxKari Faux is an American rapper and singer whose music has been described as "internet rap" and whose debut mixtape, Laugh Now, Die Later, was listed on Pitchfork's "Most Overlooked Mixtapes of 2014." The same EP caught the attention of Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, who remixed her song "No Small Talk" and featured it on his own mixtape, STN MTN. Spotify notes Kari Faux's "unique style of rhyming, un-chainable confidence, and dashes of sultry vocal harmonizing" which, in combination, "make her a force to look out for." yaejiYaejiYaeji is a Korean-American electronic music artist whose style combines elements of house music and hip hop with soft vocals sung in both English and Korean. Pitchfork labeled Yaeji "House Music’s Most Exciting New Voice" in 2017, and in addition to being notable for her unique sound, which is a mashup of house, trap, and rap, Yaeji has also gained praise for her clever and introspective songwriting, which covers topics such as Korean identity and mental health. what cheerWhat Cheer? BrigadeWhat Cheer? Brigade is a Providence-based brass band with about 18 active members. You should probably already know that, though — it's been a staple of Brown's Spring Weekend Lineup for years. Spring Weekend will take place on April 26th and 27th. Time to start building some Spotify playlists! Images viavia, via, via, via, viavia, and via. *As predicted, several of the artists set to perform are Caribbean (Stefflon Don is of Jamaican descent and Daniel Caesar has both Bajan and Jamaican roots), and Mitski's coming!
