Rumors: Spring Weekend 2019
The Spring Weekend Lineup Release Party, my annual excuse to get drunk on a Tuesday, is this week. Although the rumor mill has not been spinning quite as hard as usual this year, I feel obligated to continue Blog's embarrassing tradition of incorrectly predicting every single act (except for What Cheer? Brigade). We've got to face it — Brown Concert Agency is pretty good at keeping their mouths shut.
After my friend's mom's boyfriend's sister's cousin who confirmed Mura Masa and Brockhampton last year was proven wrong, I've become more skeptical about Spring Weekend rumors. This year, I've decided that I won't allow myself to get excited about any hopeful whispers, since rumors are just that — rumors — and nothing more. However, just in case you're less jaded than I am, here's what we've heard so far: SolangeSince Beyoncé is out of the budget question, Solange would certainly be the next best thing. Speculation circulated at Brown following rumors that she will be making appearances at other colleges this year. Sofi TukkerThis is the one name that has been bouncing around campus since December. Honestly, I would be kind of disappointed if it were true. Although Sofi Tukker are a sick pair of Brown alums who put out some pretty good music, they've performed in Providence too recently for this to be an exciting Spring Weekend act. Maybe I'd be into them for After Dark? "Caribbean Artists"One blogger who will remain anonymous claims to have directly questioned an equally anonymous member of BCA about this rumor, and reports that their response was "interesting." But "Caribbean Artists" is still kind of a vague term. The first names that come to mind are Rihanna (born in Barbados) and Nicki Minaj (born in Trinidad), but these names seem too big. Who does this leave? Sean Paul? Sean Kingston? The Baha Men? Some further research has revealed that Solange and Beyoncé's father is Bahamian. And apparently A$AP Rocky (a suspect for Spring Weekend last year) is of Barbadian descent. So the plot thickens...[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkuu0Lwb5EM[/embed] Finally, here are some wild and semi-researched guesses:LizzoBlogger Allison Gordon '19 guesses Lizzo "just because."21 SavageBCA needs a mediocre, yet still just famous enough rapper for Friday night. 21 Savage is performing at Vanderbilt's Rites of Spring the weekend before Spring Weekend, so it seems plausible that he might continue the college campus circuit in Providence.MitskiBecause the GovBall lineup is usually a good indication of who's touring, Mitski is my best guess for Saturday. Her April tour ends in Mass on the 20th, so she would be available. That's about it. Can't wait to be proven wrong tomorrow at midnight! Images via.
