What to do this MONTH: Rhode Island Food Fights

Are you bored of the Ratty? Haven’t left your room in weeks and in the mood for an adventure? Or maybe you just really love to eat? Join me in my endeavor to try every sandwich that Providence has to offer over the course of just thirty days. Rhode Island Food Fights is one of Providence’s best-kept secrets (the only people who seem to advertise it are local Uber drivers).Each month, local restaurants enter their specialty items into a competition, with one emerging as the winner at the end. With themes ranging from Lord of the Wings to Taco Mania, Rhode Island Food Fights gives local Rhodies the opportunity to explore the culinary scene of one of America’s ~foodiest~ cities at an extremely low cost year-round. Purchasing a $25 passport online gets you a physical coupon book with vouchers for one specialty dish at each of 15-20 local restaurants, valid for the entire month. So, even for the noncommittal among us, this purchase pays for itself in just a couple of sandwiches. In addition to their online competitions, RI Food Fights also hosts live events, where attendees have the opportunity to taste test foods from a variety of vendors and hear from judges, including local chefs and food critics.Whether or not you choose to participate, stay tuned for sandwich reviews from my panel of experts (likely comprised of myself and one hungry friend), and regular updates as I adventure through Rhode Island this month. Images via
