December 3 - December 9: Walkout, SPEC, and SKORTS

Monday, December 3Event: BLACK WALK 50Location: Various locations around campusTime: All week**From the Black Student Walkout Information Shared Doc**"Why not? Why wait?  Instead of waiting for instances of explicit racism to directly harm our community, the Walkout is happening with an understanding that if we wait for something bad to happen then we as a community have waited too long. We shouldn’t wait to get angry, we shouldn’t wait to get hurt. Now more than ever, this Walkout presents one of the best opportunities through which to urge the University to support all Black students. This year not only marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1968 Black Student Walkout but it also marks a year where the University is in the process of renewing a number of its policies which directly affect Black folks. This fact has been kept hidden so that we remain complacent as the University backs down on the commitments it has made to our community. The reason we are here now is because 50 years ago, Black students did what’s being asked of us today. Drawing on the courage of the students from 1968 and the love that we have for each other, we move forward. We cannot let the fear that the University is seeking to instill in our community limit us. Fear of the institution and fear of what we would be without the institution are products of white supremacy, and it is radical Black love and community that will defeat this. Above all else, the Walkout is an act of love for ourselves, for each other, for past and future generations of Black students at Brown. Love will sustain us."To learn more, check out the Facebook page and watch this video below:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx8wGGzO6BU&feature=shareEvent: Trivia Night at the Malted BarleyLocation: The Malted Barley ProvidenceTime: 7The Malted Barley's Trivia Night!
