Sophomore Slump Part 4: Spring Break

Back in December, you and your friends had the highest of hopes for your sophomore year spring break. You spent hours on Expedia looking for cheap flights to Mexico, calculating the cost of taking a zip car to Montreal, and bookmarking beautiful AirBnbs in Europe. The options were limitless. Then, somehow, two months passed and no travel plans had been made (shocking!). One at a time, your friends started giving up on your dreams, on your future together. By mid-February, it was time for plan B."Mom?" you called her up, whipping out your favorite-child voice. "Any chance you want to take a little vacation next month? I just want to spend time with you!" Somehow, it works. She agrees on old-people-town, Florida, and you settle. We've all experienced this—the hype surrounding an event such as Spring Break contrasted with the ultimate reality of it. So, with this vacation upon us, I'm here to warn you that #SPRANGBREAK may not live up to your expectations. Especially in the midst of the Sophomore Slump.Expectation: Sipping margaritas by the pool for hours on end.Reality: Searching desperately for Wifi by the pool when you realize you haven't declared your concentration yet and the deadline is tomorrow.ask Expectation: Calling up cute foreigners you meet on the beach.Reality: Calling up every one of your father's acquaintances to beg them for a summer job.giphy Expectation: Wandering the streets of a foreign country, taking in the scenery and trying exotic foods.Reality: Making microwave pizza at home while excessively emailing the Office of International Programs because like your declaration, you forgot to start your study abroad application.giphy (1) Expectation: Luxuriating in the grandeur of your 5-star ocean-view hotel.Reality: Realizing that you forgot to enter the housing lottery for junior year. Perkins, get ready.img-0216-1 Expectation: Reading a romance novel on the beach.Reality: Reading your orgo textbook on the beach because your professors all decided to give exams the day you get back to school.
