Nice Slice to close Thayer Street shop
Last week, the College Hill community was rocked by news that beloved Thayer Street pizza shop Nice Slice would be closing its doors next month. The Facebook announcement sent shockwaves across College Hill. You can read it (and weep) in its entirety here. Nice Slice has been open for twelve years, but on April 15th, it will shutter its doors for good. In the interim, I personally will be eating every single meal there—and I encourage any fellow sans-meal-plan readers to do the same. The owners of Nice Slice mentioned "the corporate tide of big business" as a contributing factor behind their decision to close down the shop, citing "empty stores, endless construction, and now parking meters with a terminator for an enforcer" as major factors that impacted business. Who are you terminator as an enforcer? Why do you hate us so?If there's any possible silver lining to this tragedy of Shakespearean proportions, it's that the folks over at Nice Slice are hard at work preparing to open a new storefront on the West Side. If all goes right, we'll only be without Cranberry Picnic goodness for about a month. And sure, the other side of town is a bit of a hike, but us here at Blog certainly think it's worth it.Their statement ended with a call to support local small businesses and the fitting final words words: "THANK YOU,... AND NO, YOU CAN'T CRUSH THE DREAM." Thayer Street Nice Slice, you will be sorely missed.
