What your Christmas Tree says about you

Since many of us have been hearing Christmas music sporadically since November 1st, it's safe to say it's both a relief and a treat that Christmas is finally upon us. Especially now that finals have ended and the first semester is officially over, many of us could really use a break. This post is here to help relax your mind while you await both your final orgo grade and your mom's Christmas cookies. For all you Christians out there, you may believe Christmas is not normally known as a time that allows us to express our unique individuality. It's seen as time of tradition, and widespread traditions tend to foster uniformity. That cool new shirt you bought in Providence may not be so welcome at the dinner table amongst Grandma Eleanor and Uncle Todd. But where is the one place your unique colors may shine brightly this time of year? Your Christmas tree and how it's decorated! Here is what your Christmas tree might say about you:maxresdefaultTree with lots and lots of lightsYou are an optimist with a zest for life! You light your Christmas tree as though it is the only source of light in the house, and this is the same way you view living life. All in or bust. Why bring a little joy and brightness, when you can light up an entire room with your energy and passion. You are not shy and you want to be noticed (in a good way, of course). modern-fashionable-huge-room-christmas-tree-decoration-with-romantic-red-candle-lights-combined-led-lights-also-added-glitter-balls-ornaments-744x1290Tree decorated with real candlesYou, my friend, are hard to read. I want to say you are a traditional person who values their roots and the way that their ancestors have decorated their Christmas trees for decades and decades. But at the same time you're sort of a bad ass risk taker. You throw caution to the wind! Open flames on a tree? Who cares, it's Christmas! Possible house fire that could burn away all of your belongings? Ah, forget it, when there is egg nog! Hats off to you, tree candle people. You bring beauty, excitement, and a little bit of danger to Christmas, and to the world. maxresdefault-1Fake TreeYou are a strong minded, responsible, environmentally conscious person. One, you are strong minded because there is no way you have not been bombarded with both questions and judgements about whether a fake one is as good as a real one, if you miss the smell of pine, or where you store the thing all year. You made your decision, and you are sticking to your guns. Respectable. Two, you are responsible because fake trees last for years. Way to invest in your next 10 years of Christmas joy. An investment almost no one would regret. And three, your reason for being environmentally conscious is obvious given you aren't chopping down a perfectly good tree each year just to string it up with ornaments. So, go take a seat in front of your fake Christmas tree, light a pine scented Yankee candle, and bask in your responsible Christmas spirit. how-to-decorate-a-christmas-tree-when-you-have-kidsimg_3705img_3703Tree with mismatched/homemade ornamentsYou're a family person! Although your Christmas tree might not be the most glamorous of sorts, its is meaningful and that is important to you. I myself am an owner of a Christmas tree decorated with mostly ornaments made by my brother and myself when we were kids, and I thought I would include some of our best work. Pictured above is my pinecone adorned with red glitter glue and held up with a pipe cleaner. I also included the crowning glory of our Christmas tree: the most terrifying Christmas angel of all time. Yes, this is actually on my Christmas tree, and yes its styrofoam face looks like it is calling out to my family, begging us to put it out of its misery, but she will remain there as a reminder of the hard working 6 year old artist my brother once was. It's gross but its nice. Can't win them all.tree_72dpi_rgbColored lightsYou guys are fun, let me tell ya. You are a beautiful rule breaking moth, as Leslie Knope would say. You guys are the people who everyone wants to invite to their parties, because when y'all show up, the awkward small talk and checking of phones comes to a close. You are the type of person who isn't afraid to let loose and really strut your stuff. Pretty much what I'm saying is I want to be friends with you.diy-christmas-tree-decoration-ideas-21Tree with perfectly sized and uniform colored ornamentsYou are a visionary and a perfectionist. You guys are the Martha Stewarts of the world. I cannot relate, but I can stare at your Christmas trees in awe, the same way people stare at all that you do did wondering how the hell it looks so good. Congratulations on being so talented, truly. Images via, via, via, via, via, and via
