The Top Female Soccer Goalie in the NCAA Happens to Go to Brown

With midterms, the holidays, and life in general taking up most of our time, its hard to pay any real attention to anyone other than ourselves, but someone who should be getting more recognition on campus is Christine Etzel '19. She’s enjoys taking long walks on the beach, is concentrating in bio with premed, and oh, is currently the leading goal keeper for save percentage on a Division 1 women’s soccer team in the NCAA, saving 92.1% of all goals shot against her. Not enough people are excited about this. Even though Brown isn’t necessarily known for its dedication and excitement towards athletics, people should be aware that the best collegiate female goalie in the nation can be found lounging on the main green eating a Blue Room sandwich.  It’s easy enough to realize what a badass she is on the field after finding out her how well she's ranked, so here are some things about Christine that you wouldn’t be able to guess just by watching her guard the crap out of a goal. Blog: How did you get into soccer?Christine: Soccer has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was a baby I slept with a tiny stuffed soccerball. She's my best friend.B: Favorite TV show?C: Grey’s anatomy.B: What Character would you be?C: Cali, because she’s a female orthopedic surgeon.Christine intends on becoming an orthopedic surgeon so that she can continue working with athletes into her adult life.B: If you could have a superpower what would it be?C: I would just want to be faster. All of my teammates are just way faster than me. I have to do running tests but they’re modified versions for the goal keepers, so it would be cool if I could just be as fast as everyone else.schapiro_atow_cobrownbearsB: If you could only wear one color for a month straight what would it be?C: Black, but in a chic, stylish way, not in a dark, gloomy, goth way.B: Favorite Pregame song?C: Anything David Guetta, but most specifically ‘Bad’ from his Listen album.B: Favorite Pregame Meal?C: English muffin with peanutbutter and banana.B: Favorite Food?C: Penne alla Vodka.B: Favorite Movie?C: The Blind Side.B: If you could go to any concert, what would it be?C: Beyonce.B: If you could marry any celebrity, who would it be?C: Definitely the German National Team goal keeper, Manuel Neuer.B: If you were an animal, what would you be?C: A golden retriever because I’d like to think I’m friendly and happy.Coincidence that both Christine and golden retrievers retrieve balls? That being said, if there are opportunities for me with soccer after Brown, I’m not against it.B: What do you attribute most of your success at Brown to?C: It's the great team in front of me and my coaching staff. The team’s belief and trust in me has been incredible, and the coaches have pushed us all to believe in ourselves more than we have before. Its definitely given us the confidence to do well.B: Why should more people come to your games?C: I think people think that women’s soccer is a slow paced game, but we are actually good, and there’s a lot of action. We are all super passionate and excited about playing, and it definitely shows when we are out there. My team is outgoing and personable and they’re super fun to come see, and we appreciate it a lot when fans come.SO, make sure to catch the last regular season home game against Yale on November 5th and see Christine saving all the goals. Images via and via.
