All within the Brown & wider Providence community are welcome to attend, so spread the word!Event: How Structural Racism Works: Industrialized PunishmentLocation: Granoff CenterTime: 6:00 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.Come attend the next How Structural Racism Works lecture, "Industrialized Punishment," presented by Ruth Wilson Gilmore, director of the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics and professor of geography in earth and environmental sciences, City University of New York.The lecture will focus on mass incarceration and how it is a massively public, state-building project that both depends on and expands structural racism. The lecture will examine how and why the criminal justice system produced 25% of the plant's prison-and-jail population, and consider, "What is to be done?" The lecture will be followed by a Q&A discussion moderated by Professor Tricia Rose, director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America.A reception will follow.
