Breaking: Emma Watson is not the only person to ever graduate Brown
Believe it or not, Harvard isn’t hoarding all the young, intelligent celebrities with Ivy ambitions. Brown has had its fair share of successful alumni, as well as super talented current students. In fact, on my fourth day at Brown I saw the guy who played Rowley in Diary of a Wimpy Kid at the VDub and almost had an out-of-body experience. But, apparently, advertising wasn’t as impressed by Capron’s deliverance of ‘Zoe-wee-mama’ as I was, because when I took a campus tour one year ago his name was not uttered. Emma Watson’s, however, was. Numerously. A whole bunch of times. Like, a lot.I don’t mean to be controversial. I happen to love Emma Watson. Harry Potter was and will forever be the shit. So I’m not trying to say the Hermione hype is undeserved. But Brown acts like she’s the only cool person who’s ever gone here. That’s why I put together a list of under-appreciated Brown alumni, which will hopefully give the powers in charge of wooing applicants some new material.
- John Krasinski, Actor and Director. Yes, it’s Jim from The Office, as well as that hot rugged dad from A Quiet Place. Why the admissions office doesn’t have his beautiful face on a banner flying above the campus center already is beyond my comprehension.

- Alicia Sacramone, Olympic Gymnast. She won a Silver medal in the 2008 Olympics. Okay, so she’s no Michael Phelps, but no one is (except Michael Phelps). And I don’t see any of you with even Bronze medals. Try me.

- Julie Bowen, actress. Modern Family fans might already know this one, since she played Mama Dunphy in that hit comedy. Happy Gilmore and Lost are some more of her prestigious credits.

- Edwidge Danticat, Author. This American-Haitian writer has published several fiction and nonfiction novels, as well as books for children and young adults. The themes of her work addresses topics like poverty and injustice, and her plots usually focus on female relationships. Then y’all go and act like Watson invented feminism.

- Aaron T. Beck, father of cognitive therapy. He’s the person to thank for modern treatment of clinical depression. That’s dope(amine).

- Dara Khosrowshahi, Chief Executive Officer of Uber. Hint: be on the lookout for his last name in the class of 2022.

- Daveed Diggs, rapper/actor. He won both a Grammy and a Tony for his work in Hamilton. P.s. Is anyone else still devastated that Netflix’s The Get Down got canceled?

- JFK Jr., son of JFK (though I hope that was obvious). His careers include journalism, publishing, and law.

- André Leon Talley, former editor of Vogue Magazine. Talley grew up in Jim-Crow segregated south and went on to get a French Lit Master of Arts Degree at Brown.

- Tracee Ellis Ross, actress (and daughter of Diana Ross). She is best known for her role on the comedy Black-ish, and her character (Dr. Rainbow Johnson) is also a Brown alumnae. Actually, there’s an episode where Dr. Johnson visits Brown with her daughter, a prospective student. But, much to Ross’s disappointment, they did not actually film in Providence.

Well there you go! Ten totally rad Brown grads. And who knows, you too could one day be featured on Blog. Make us proud (no pressure). Images via, via, via, via, via, via, via, via, via, via, and via.
