Panelists include Douglas Belchior of Uneafro-Brasil and the Brazilian Black Movement, Kleaver Cruz, creator of The Black Joy Project and the Black Lives Matter Chapter in New York, Zaire Dinzey-Flores, Associate Professor of Sociology and Latino and Caribbean Studies at Rutgers University; and Mary Miller Flowers of Open Society Foundations in Washington, D.C. that provides financial support for many Black organizations across the Americas. Keisha-Khan Perry of the Department of Africana Studies will moderate.

Event: Bottleneck: Engaging Infrastructures in Dakar, SenegalLocation: Mckinney Conference RoomTime: 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.Caroline Melly, Smith Professor and author, discusses her book on the paradox of the Senegalese dependence on transnational migration, as well as the increasing inability to do so. Drawing together ethnographic research conducted on Dakar’s traffic clogged roads and in bustling bureaucratic offices, this talk considers what insights the bottleneck concept might afford in our quest to understand migration, state practice, and everyday urban life in Africa and beyond. Event: Garlands for Steven Stucky: Gloria Cheng in RecitalLocation: Granoff Center for the Creative ArtsTime: 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.Grammy Award-winning pianist Gloria Cheng will present a concert of thirty-two short works for solo piano composed in memory of beloved composer and mentor Steven Stucky (1949-2016).
