UCS ideation session: Academic integrity, water stations, and more
On October 11th, the Undergraduate Council of Students (UCS) held a ideation session in which they discussed plans for the new semester, including promoting academic integrity across all departments, making dining hall ingredients and allergen information more accessible, and increasing the visibility of resources such as CAPS, SEAS and BWell. Here are the meeting's highlights: ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Project Tampon
UCS will be institutionalizing Project Tampon in the coming week. The project, now funded by the Office of the President, provides menstrual supplies to restrooms around campus. This semester, UCS is working with a new company, Tampon Tribe, which provides biodegradable, toxin free, compostable and sustainable products. UCS is currently looking for volunteers to help with distribution. COMMITTEE IDEAS FOR THE COMING SEMESTER
- Academic Affairs
The Academic Affairs Committee is working with the University to promote academic integrity across all departments. Ideas included working to expand the accessibility of the Writing Center, improving department communications on a campus-wide level, and increasing the visibility of research opportunities.
- Campus Life
Currently, the Campus Life Committee is working on increasing the number of water stations available on campus, particularly in residential halls and gyms that lack them. Other upcoming projects include the potential development of an app that would consolidate the Café Bon Appetit and Net Nutrition websites to make ingredients and allergen information more accessible. There were also proposals to extend Safe Walk services to weekends (they are currently only available Sunday through Thursday) and to facilitate communication between Residential Life and students.
- Student Activities
The Student Activities Committee's main objective for the semester is to make it easier for students to form new clubs by speeding up the application and approval processes. The committee also plans to enhance the visibility and accessibility of different clubs on campus and their respective contact information.
- Student Wellness
The Student Wellness Committee emphasized the need to increase the visibility of resources such as CAPS, SEAS and BWell. They also discussed potentially introducing insurance coaching, proposing that insurance experts could come in to help students better understand Brown's health insurance coverage, and compare it to outside companies.
