Introducing this fall's BlogBabies

We're so excited to introduce our nine talented and clever avian aficionados new writers! We had them interview each other so you can get to know a bit about who they are, what they do, and, of course, what bird with which they identify most. Read all about them below! 21908632_10214088293550052_968410227_o Sophie Ulene ’20 can be found on any given Saturday watching TV shows she’s already seen, online shopping but never buying anything, or fencing. Hailing from the ‘burbs of New York, she has graced us with her presence to share her love of consuming what she proclaims are “disgusting amounts” of cheese. Seriously: the glint in her eyes when cheese is mentioned gives me no reason to doubt her claim. She enjoys watching shows such as Shameless, Friends, The Office, The Voice, Riverdale, The X Factor, and anything that airs on HGTV. Although she’s an athlete, she informs me that she hates walking and frequently checks the miles on her phone to feel good about herself. However, you won’t find her hanging in any hammocks because their sway makes her carsick. If she were to be any bird, she would be Nigel from Nemo. By Kat Oré-Girón '20 21886574_10214088293150042_1157143211_o Cori Williams ’21, new to the Blognonian as she is to Brown, hails from Maryland a self-professed introvert. An aspiring CS-concentrator interested in reading and writing (as most blog-writers tend to be), she also loves running—though, interestingly enough, she insists that she identifies more with Tweety than Road Runner. Her favorite dairy product is ice cream (cookie-dough flavor, she revealed, upon further probing). Also, if she had to dye her hair, burgundy would be her color of choice.By Kahini Mehta '21 21875813_10214088292990038_496610872_o Elliott Lehrer is a first-year hailing from sunny San Diego, California. If Elliott were a bird, he would be a crow, as—much like him—they are very skilled at recognizing faces and don’t mind picking up trash. Elliott is excited for a relaxing college experience as he concentrates in either math or physics (or both). If Elliot were a dining hall on campus, he would be the Ratty because he appreciates diversity and, much to the dissatisfaction of those around him, he also completely shuts down for twelve hours a day. In his spare time, Elliott enjoys participating in hackathons, competing in math competitions, and collecting snow globes, although he has yet to find one for Brown.By Emma Weiss '21 21886622_10214088292910036_1568394162_o Bex is a sophomore transfer student from somewhere north of Boston, uncharted territory to most Brown students. They really like words, and are probably going to study linguistics. However, they don’t like music all that much (What?! How?! Why?! Sad!). Its ok, we still love them. Especially their hair. Right now, it’s purple. Sometimes it’s blue. Sometimes it’s green. Very occasionally it’s brownish blonde. Last year they dressed up as both Tonks and Scorpius Malfoy on separate nights for Halloween. Bex is “exceptional at microwave cooking” and prides themself on spending as much time in bed as possible. If they were a bird, they would be a pink flamingo lawn ornament.By Ethan Rosenberg '19 21931374_10214088292870035_905197038_o Katherine Oré-Girón ’20 may be an Arizona native, but she identifies closely with the penguins from Happy Feet—very single one of them. By day you can find her shamelessly binging the Bachelor, Kardashians, or Brooklyn 99, but by night she’s holed up in the darkness that is the fourth floor of the Rock. Her favorite snack is a ~crisp~ grape, but she hates the Ratty with a burning passion and consumes Brown’s dining hall food for survival purposes only. Ask her about it at your own risk.By Sophie Ulene '20 21886748_1648585108526719_80335432_o

Kahini Mehta '20 came to the Blog all the way from Mumbai, India and plans to study something along the lines of English, Chemistry, or Psychology. If she were a dairy product, she would be chocolate milk (yum!) and if she were a part of the brain she'd be the mighty Broca's Area, which is responsible for speech (a fact I definitely knew before, come on guys, keep up). If Kahini were a bird she would be Owl, from Winnie the Pooh. And, like a speedy owl swooping down from the sky, Kahini has not wasted any time in applying to every publication Brown has to offer (while most of us could not even find every publication table at the activities fair no matter how hard we tried...) Stay tuned to Blog for more of the wise owl Kahini's sage wisdom!

21908903_10214088292830034_1730324990_o Emma Weiss is a first-year planning on concentrating in Modern Culture and Media, along with Business, Entrepreneurship, and Organizations. She alleges that she made this decision for reasons other than having the highest number of words on her transcript. Emma chose penguins to represent her—out of all 10,000 possible bird species—because both she and penguinkind have a fear of heights and wear fuzzy socks, although the penguins are much better at keeping the latter part a secret. Growing up in Jersey, Emma really enjoyed the beautiful highways, the general amenability, and the great traffic. This newly joined penguin, as a dedicated Office fan, is noticeably disappointed that watching TV is not yet an official Olympic sport. Emma sincerely regrets not having tried coffee milk earlier, and, to make up for it, wishes to be hiking the Appalachian trail sometime in the near future.By Elliott Lehrer '21 21886863_10214088293430049_2064246263_o Ethan Rosenberg definitely loves art the most of anyone ever in history. In his own words, he “loves art. Like, a lot.” Alright, Ethan. Known around town as a secret basic white girl, only those closest to him know that the true guiding light of his life is Nigel, the pelican from Finding Nemo.*  A lover of Kesha, Ethan particularly enjoys her latest album Rainbow. He can play guitar...well, he can play covers on the guitar...well, he can play Ed Sheeran covers on the guitar. He recently became a dog person and lactose intolerant (no correlation).By Bex Neuman-Hammond '20 Last, but not least,  Droneberg is our newest member of our team. Their favorite publication is the Odyssey Online, and find it to be a spectacular source of inspiration. Currently, the article "How Your Zodiac Sign Correlates to What Color You Should Wear to Your Delta Gamma Alpha Sigma Rush Event," is pinned to their mood board. Also, they enjoy mood boarding. After a particularly hard class, they treat themselves to a lil extra guac, and yes, they know it costs extra. Their favorite place to hang out at is with the burn outs at Coachella. Their favorite past times include lying about how much they know about sports and pretending to live a life remarkably similar to Lana del Rey—"I'm a Brooklyn Baby, and get down to beat poetry. Florida Kilos, Yayo, Pepsi Cola." *Yes, the same Nigel who is near and dear to Sophie's heart. Clearly he makes quite an impression. Graphics by Kelly Carey-Ewend ’19.
