Introducing this fall's BlogBabies!
This fall, The Blognonian welcomed seven stunning, hilarious, and brilliant new writers. Because we know how much they love journalism—and each other—we decided to have them interview each other. Get to know this fall's BlogBabies below!
Adam Vieira (’18) comes to Providence from the whaling capital of the world (I think), New Bedford, Massachusetts. Though he has visited the New Bedford Whaling Museum on a number of occasions, his true passion is municipal government meetings, which he’ll often sit in on both because of his passion for public policy (his concentration along with history) and for sheer entertainment value. Even though he lays down the law as RPL in Jameson basement/dungeon, he also likes to kick back and watch sitcoms; his favorites are Golden Girls and The Nanny. He personally identifies more with the latter, a 90s sitcom about a Jewish fashionista from Queens who becomes a high society nanny. If you ask Adam to recite the theme song, he probably will.

Ben Reisner is a first-year currently studying political science. Hailing from the busy borough of Manhattan, New York, Ben is displeased with New England frostbite season, but slightly mollified by Brown’s proximity to Chipotle. Alongside his interest in political science, Ben loves history and is enjoying the cognitive science class he chose on a whim. Even though he has found that Brown’s tailgate enthusiasm doesn’t necessarily translate into the actual games, Ben aims to join the intramural tennis or volleyball team. If he were a sitcom, he would be Curb Your Enthusiasm, and if he could eat lunch with anyone, it would be Larry David (especially because last time Larry David ate lunch with a fan, he ended up offering them his spleen.) You can find Ben studying in the John Hay Library, bingeing Rick and Morty, or working on his latest amazing piece for the Blog!

Calvin Nickelson is a junior concentrating in psychology. If he were a TV sitcom, he’d be The Big Bang Theory because he’s super nerdy. His favorite color is a nice light blue. Bees and the creepy creature from Stranger Things both star in his nightmares. If he were stranded on Mars and could only bring three things, he’d bring a camera, a couple of classic books that he’ll probably not read (ie. Moby Dick), and a bouncy ball. One day, he’d like to be squeezed to death by a giant squid because they’re so rare, and also it’d be a pretty cool death.
-Cindy Zeng '20

Cindy Zeng is a first-year planning on concentrating in Applied Math & Econ. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, she enjoys writing, consuming cheese-infused substances (especially Flamin' Hot Cheetos), and crying over her calculus book. Ever practical, if she were trapped on a deserted island, she would bring a fully fueled cruise ship, a sailor to pilot her home, and a dog to keep her company. Silly island, you're no match for Cindy! Also, don't tell anyone, but she is deeply afraid of dark creatures (think the monster from Stranger Things, ick). And finally, if she were a TV sitcom, she believes she would be Pushing Daisies, a show that follows a baker who brings things back from the dead.
-Calvin Nickleson '18

Casey Clifford hails from New Canaan, Connecticut and plans to double concentrate in History and English. She is a member of Best Buddies and Story Tellers. Casey also rows for the varsity team, thus sealing her fate as a total badass. As far as special talents are concerned, Casey can walk on her hands for a while (like over a minute) because she used to be a gymnast. Although her dogs are not the most exotic, they are really cool because of "great personalities/vibes." You can catch Casey eating a VDub breakfast of bagels and eggs because it's the "best meal on campus." But for "all around good quality," she'll be in the Blue Room. If Casey were a sitcom, she would be The Office.
-Allison Gordon '19 (not a new writer)

Isha Chavva is a first-year from North Brunswick, NJ. She attended North Brunswick Township High School, where she was Valedictorian and worked at the school newspaper. She is currently living in Jameson-Mead and enjoying the freshman lifestyle—particularly Jo’s Quesadillas. Isha is currently on a pre-med track with an interest in Cognitive Science. Her favorite sitcom is Seinfeld, but unlike the show, she does not want to write about nothing; with the Blog, Isha hopes to cover events at Brown with her own personal style.
