Finding Yourself at the New Science Center Persona Exhibit
Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Kenji Endo ’18 and Teri Minogue ’18 (in Dave’s on a crisp autumn day, no less). Kenji and Teri are two of the curators for the new exhibit in the Science Center, “Persona: Human-Centered Approaches.” It opens this Friday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m. with a reception on the 3rd floor of the Sciences Library and will be on display for the entire year. The exhibit is framed by the multi-dimensional question, “What defines a person?” and shows various works from students, alumni, and professors, all with insightful answers. Mediums include animation, film, web design, performances, and more.

How was the theme decided for this year’s exhibit?“Last year, the theme was Prototype and focused on the design process,” Kenji said. “This year, we wanted to think more abstractly and have it span disciplines and incorporate more humanities.”“Persona focuses on topics like identity, personhood, self – all concepts that we can identity with,” Teri said. What can visitors take away from this exhibit?“We wanted to leave the viewer with the question ‘What is your answer?’” Kenji said. “It is an inherently interdisciplinary exhibit. STEM and humanities don’t exist in vacuums, and we hope all individuals can use the Science Center space to their benefit.”"STEM and humanities don't exist in vacuums." Wow. That's certainly food for thought on this Friday morning.
So, what is your answer? Come to the opening of Persona today at 4:00 p.m. and you’ll probably, almost definitely, figure it out.
