Bruno's Bar: The Tequila Special
Tempted to squeeze in one last end-of-the-semester bash before officially hopping on board the finals struggle bus? Or are you already up to your neck with rapidly-approaching paper deadlines and exams looming over the horizon? Whatever the case, your friends at Bruno’s Bar have got you covered this finals season with a healthy dose of liquid confidence (specifically tequila) that might grant you the extra bit of motivation you’ve been desperately searching for.Me trying to find the motivation to finish the semester strong.
This ~Tequila Special~ features two refreshing and easy to prepare cocktail recipes focused entirely on the iconic Mexican spirit. That’s right. You get—not one, but—two new potential drink options that you can add to the increasingly short list of non-caffeinated beverages that you might consume during these final weeks. The Salty Chihuahua (Yes, that's it's real name): Aside from being what my exes call me, this cocktail is simple, inexpensive, and good. What more can you really ask for?
- Salt and Lime: First things, first: Use a wedge of lime to wet the rim of a solo cup or old-fashioned glass, if you’re about that fancy lifestyle, and then fill your cup with ice.
- Silver Tequila : Pour about 1.5 oz of your silver tequila of choice over the ice, and then swirl the cup to evenly mix this alcoholic base.
- Lemonade: Add about 4.5 -5 oz of lemonade (enough to fill the glass) to the mixture and stir the cocktail.
- Lime: Squeeze a lime wedge over the drink to add a dash of lime juice, and drop the wedge into the glass for a little garnish.
- (Bonus) Sugar: Add some sugar to sweeten the deal if the lemonade just isn’t cutting it. Coating the rim of the glass with sugar instead of salt is another tempting option.
The Paloma: What it lacks in name flare it makes up for in flavor. Note: Grapefruit juice is known to interact with some types of birth control, so take a look at the almost unreadable fine print before consuming.
- Salt or sugar: As before, coat the rim of your cup with salt or sugar and add ice to your glass.
- Silver Tequila: Pour about 2 oz. of tequila over the ice and swirl the contents of the glass.
- Lime Juice: Add in a splash (about 0.5 oz) of freshly squeezed lime juice and stir to ensure it mixes evenly with the ice/tequila.
- Grapefruit Juice: Top off the drink with around 5-6 oz. of grapefruit juice.
- Club Soda: Add a small amount of club soda and you are ready to serve.
I recognize that the closing weeks of this semester are likely to be loaded with stress for a wide variety of reasons. However, I’d like to remind everyone that there’s nothing wrong with taking some time off in between finals to treat yourself with a bit of fun. And tequila, when administered in moderate amounts, is definitely known to enhance a wide variety of destressing rituals. After all, a little party never killed nobody (emphasis on little).Warning: Drinking to excess may induce a dangerous increase in texting frequency, often accompanied by a severe drop in self-control. This syndrome is colloquially known as “looking desperate.”Images via, via , via and via.
