Thundercat

An extremely talented bassist, a phenomenal studio musician, an incredible vocalist, and an even better live performer, Steven Bruner (a.k.a. Thundercat) is arguably the best act to take the stage this Spring Weekend. Most of you probably are quite familiar with Thundercat's work, even if the Spring Weekend Lineup Release Party was the first place that you heard his name. A major collaborator on Kendrick Lamar's two latest releases, Flying Lotus's most recent albums (by the way, FlyLo and Thundercat are best friends—watch this video to get a sense of their adorable bromance), Erkyah Badu's two-installment New Amerkyah series, and Kamasi Washington's game-changing The Epic, Bruner's work as a sideman alone (a list that keeps going on and on) is enough to get even the most unfamiliar of SW attendees stoked.thundercat pictureThundercat has also developed quite a repertoire on his own, with three solo albums already out and another one on its way (to drop later this year). We don't want to guarantee it, but definitely keep an ear out during his set for some sneak-peeks of his new work. If you're new to Thundercat, check out the playlist at the end of this post. Some essential cuts include his FlyLo collab, "Them Changes," and "Heartbreaks and Setbacks," and also keep an eye out for some familiar mainstream hits that feature that unmistakably irresistible Thundercat touch. And it's extremely important to note the fact that Thundercat's live performances are just as amazing as his recorded work. Combining his unbelievable proficiency with an infallible live band and galvanizing energy, Thundercat always brings down the house when he performs. (For example, check out this live version of "Them Changes.")So, in short, Thundercat's going to kill it on the Main Green this Spring Weekend. An incredible talent, Thundercat's the one act that you absolutely cannot miss.https://open.spotify.com/user/blognonian/playlist/2D9LOgNz8FNQRWrWpv7NCaImages via and via the Blog Graphics Team.
